UK Electrical Demand Report 2026: Searches, Clicks & Risk

Emergency electrical demand across 248 UK towns, 238,440 monthly searches, click costs by area and the risk behind fault callouts. Free to cite.

Key findings, free to cite
  • Electrical work draws 238,440 Google searches a month across 248 UK towns and cities, the second-largest emergency-trade market after plumbing.
  • A typical electrical click costs £4.62 (median), £4.95 volume-weighted; emergency-intent clicks run about 2.5x higher (median £11.62).
  • Individual emergency figures read as high as £102.99 ("emergency electrician twickenham"), but on about 20 searches a month that is an auction artefact, not a market rate. The ordinary "electrician twickenham" click in the same town is just £2.78.
  • Bristol is a striking outlier: 30,560 electrical searches a month, more than five times London's electrical volume.

This is an open data report on emergency electrical demand in the United Kingdom, compiled from live Google Ads search data, census figures and a per-town weather-risk classification. Every figure is sourced in the methodology below and is free to cite with attribution to GetTheCall.

The size of UK electrical search demand

Electrical faults are the emergency a homeowner legally cannot fix themselves, a burning smell from a socket, a tripping consumer unit or total power loss all require a certified electrician. That drives 238,440 searches a month across our 248-town dataset, of which 11,890 (5.0%) carry explicit emergency intent.

Where electrical demand concentrates

The electrical table has the single biggest regional anomaly in the whole dataset: Bristol. Its 30,560 monthly searches dwarf every other city and pull the national picture west. Cardiff is second. London, usually top, sits third for electrical.

Where an electrical click costs the most

Restricting to keywords with real demand, 100+ searches a month, the priciest volume-backed electrical clicks cluster in London's outer boroughs, with a few competitive regional towns alongside them. Competition, not search volume, sets these rates.

The emergency premium, and a data caveat

The median emergency electrical click costs £11.62 against £4.62 for a standard one, a 2.5x premium. Ignore the eye-catching extremes: "emergency electrician twickenham" reads £102.99, but that keyword gets about 20 searches a month, and the ordinary "electrician twickenham" click in the very same town is just £2.78. A 37x gap on a near-empty auction is noise from unconstrained automated bidding, not a rate any electrician sustainably pays.

The weather behind the callouts

Electrical faults are less obviously weather-driven than roofing or plumbing, but water and salt are the enemies of wiring. Of the risk-classified towns, 88 (36.8%) carry a flood risk flag and 51 (21.3%) a coastal salt exposure flag, the conditions that corrode connections, trip protective devices and put circuits at risk. Estuary and tidal towns (31 flagged) compound both.

What electricians actually charge

Emergency electrical callouts typically run £80 to £280 for an out-of-hours diagnostic visit, with consumer-unit replacements and partial rewires reaching £400-£1,800. Most fixed-wiring work legally requires Part P certification (England & Wales) and NICEIC or NAPIT registration is the customer expectation, a barrier that keeps the certified emergency market tighter and click prices high.

Methodology & sources

Search & click-cost data: Google Ads monthly-average search volume and cost-per-click via the DataForSEO Keywords Data API (geo: United Kingdom), pulled 17 June 2026. Volumes sum the Google Ads monthly averages across the electrical keyword variants queried per town; they are a relative demand signal, not unique searchers.

How we handle click costs: Google Ads CPC on very-low-volume keywords is noisy, a single unconstrained bidder can push a near-empty auction to £100+ a click. So headline CPCs are reported as the median and the volume-weighted mean (both down-weight thin outliers), and "most expensive" tables are limited to keywords with 100+ searches a month. Extreme readings are shown only as labelled outliers, with their search volume.

Demographics: ONS Census 2021 (England & Wales), National Records of Scotland 2022, NISRA 2021 (Northern Ireland).

Weather-risk classification: GetTheCall's per-town local-conditions model across 11 hazard categories; 239 of 250 towns carry at least one flag.

The "modelled paid-search market" figure (monthly searches × volume-weighted CPC) is illustrative, not measured spend. On GetTheCall, electricians pay nothing per click and a flat fee only once a customer confirms they chose them on the call.
