UK Roofing Demand Report 2026: Searches, Clicks & Risk

Emergency roofing demand across 228 UK towns, 166,110 monthly searches, click costs by area and the storm exposure behind callouts. Free to cite.

Key findings, free to cite
  • Across 228 UK towns and cities we measured 166,110 roofing-related Google searches a month, a large, permanent, weather-driven demand base.
  • A typical roofing click costs £4.48 (median), £4.90 volume-weighted; emergency-intent clicks run about 2.7x higher (median £12.25).
  • The most expensive volume-backed roofing clicks are in competitive commuter towns, Wembley (£29.67), Poole (£25.03), Wimbledon (£21.91), where several firms bid for the same searcher.
  • Roofing demand tracks the weather: 99 of the 239 risk-classified towns (41.4%) carry a high-wind exposure flag and 79 (33.1%) sit in the Atlantic storm track.

This is an open data report on emergency roofing demand in the United Kingdom, compiled from live Google Ads search data, ONS and devolved-nation census figures, and a per-town weather-risk classification. Every figure below is sourced in the methodology at the foot of the page, and journalists, researchers and trade bodies are welcome to cite it with attribution to GetTheCall.

The size of UK roofing search demand

Roofing is a search-led emergency trade: when a tile slips or a roof starts leaking, the homeowner reaches for Google. Across the 228 towns and cities in our dataset, roofing-related terms are searched 166,110 times a month on Google. The overwhelming majority of that, 164,660 searches, is general intent ("roofer", "roof repair"), with a smaller but far more valuable 1,450 searches a month (0.9%) carrying explicit emergency intent ("emergency roofer", "roof leak repair").

Where roofing demand concentrates

Search volume follows population, but not perfectly, a city's housing stock and weather exposure move it up or down the table. These are the ten highest-volume roofing markets in the dataset.

Where a roofing click costs the most

Cost-per-click is set by advertiser competition, not volume. To keep this honest we restrict the table to keywords with real search demand, 100+ searches a month, so each figure reflects a genuine, contested auction rather than a near-empty one. On that basis the priciest roofing clicks cluster in affluent, contractor-dense commuter towns and London suburbs.

The emergency premium, and a data caveat

Adding "emergency" to a roofing search roughly triples its click cost: the median emergency roofing click is £12.25 against £4.48 for a standard one, a 2.7x premium. You may see individual emergency figures quoted far higher, "emergency roofer brighton" reads £46.89, but every one of those sits on a very-low-volume keyword (Brighton: about 20 searches a month), where a single unconstrained "maximise clicks" bidder can set the price of a near-empty auction. Those readings are real but not sustainable rates, which is why we report the median rather than the maximum.

The weather behind the callouts

Roofing is the trade most directly exposed to weather. Of the 239 towns we risk-classified, 99 (41.4%) carry a high wind exposure flag and 79 (33.1%) sit within the Atlantic storm track, the two conditions that lift tiles, open up flashings and overwhelm gutters. A further 46 towns (19.2%) are flagged for heritage roof stock, where slate, lead and clay-tile repairs command a premium.

This is why roofing demand is structural rather than seasonal: the UK's exposure to Atlantic weather systems means that somewhere is always being hit, and the housing stock, much of it pitched-roof property decades old, is permanently in need of repair.

What roofers actually charge

For context on the value behind that demand: emergency roofing callout charges in the UK typically run £60 to £150 for the initial visit, with storm-damage repairs frequently reaching £250-£600 or more once labour, access and materials are counted. Out-of-hours and weekend callouts carry a premium. These are tradesperson-set rates, the search and click-cost figures above measure the demand for that work, not the price of the work itself.

Methodology & sources

Search & click-cost data: Google Ads monthly-average search volume and cost-per-click, retrieved via the DataForSEO Keywords Data API (geo: United Kingdom) and pulled on 17 June 2026. Volumes are the sum of Google Ads monthly averages across the roofing keyword variants queried per town, and represent a relative demand signal rather than unique searchers.

How we handle click costs: Google Ads CPC on very-low-volume keywords is noisy, a single unconstrained bidder can push a near-empty auction to £100+ a click. To avoid quoting artefacts as if they were market rates, headline CPCs are reported as the median and the volume-weighted mean (both down-weight thin outliers), and "most expensive" tables are limited to keywords with 100+ searches a month. Raw maxima are shown only as labelled outliers, with their search volume.

Demographics: ONS Census 2021 (England & Wales), National Records of Scotland 2022 and NISRA 2021 (Northern Ireland).

Weather-risk classification: GetTheCall's per-town local-conditions model, which flags each area against 11 hazard categories (wind, storm, flood, frost, coastal salt, heritage stock and others) from its geography and housing profile. 239 of 250 towns carry at least one flag.

The "modelled paid-search market" figure (monthly searches × volume-weighted CPC) is illustrative. It estimates the ceiling of Google Ads spend if every search were served a paid click at the average price. It is not measured advertiser spend. On GetTheCall, roofers pay nothing per click and a flat fee only once a customer confirms they chose them on the call.
