- The most widespread hazard is high wind exposure, 99 towns (41.4%), followed by flood risk (88, 36.8%) and hard frosts (86, 36%).

Emergency trade demand is, at root, a weather story. This report maps the local conditions that generate roofing, plumbing, electrical and heating callouts across the United Kingdom, a per-town classification of 250 places against 11 hazard categories. It is a companion to our four per-trade demand reports, and is free to cite with attribution to GetTheCall.
The 11 hazards, ranked by how many towns they hit
Every town in the dataset was assessed against 11 recurring hazard categories drawn from its geography, coastal position, elevation and housing stock. Ranked by prevalence across the 239 flagged towns:

The most exposed towns in the UK
Fifteen towns carry the maximum five stacked hazard flags, places where geography piles risk on risk. Riverside and estuary London (Greenwich, Barking, Surbiton, Sidcup), the exposed Pennine towns (Bradford, Huddersfield), and the low-lying coast (Poole, Rochester, Lancaster) all appear.

The map is different in each nation
The dominant hazard changes with geography. Scotland's defining risk is cold; England's is wind; London's is the shrink-swell clay under its Victorian terraces; the Welsh and Northern Irish coasts are shaped by the Atlantic.

How each hazard becomes a callout
The value of a weather-risk map for the trades is that each hazard maps to a specific kind of emergency work:
- High wind & Atlantic storm lift tiles, open up flashings and overwhelm gutters, the drivers of emergency roofing callouts.
- Hard frosts & flood risk freeze and split pipework, shift the ground under drains and back up gullies, the drivers of emergency plumbing callouts.
- Coastal salt & flood corrode connections, trip protective devices and put circuits at risk, the drivers of emergency electrical callouts.
- Hard frosts & exposed high ground push ageing boilers into lockout and leave radiators cold, the drivers of emergency heating callouts.
- Clay subsidence & heritage stock underlie the recurring structural and drainage faults that keep demand steady between the acute weather events.
Because 95.6% of towns carry at least one hazard flag, emergency trade demand is not a niche. It is a national, weather-driven constant. The mix simply shifts by geography and season: storms in the exposed west and north, frost across Scotland and the high ground, subsidence and clay movement under London.
Methodology & sources
Weather-risk classification: GetTheCall's per-town local-conditions model. Each of 250 towns and cities is assessed against 11 recurring hazard categories, high wind, Atlantic storm, flood, hard frosts, heavy rainfall, coastal salt, estuary & tidal, exposed high ground, clay subsidence, heritage stock and hard water, derived from the area's geography, coastal position, elevation and predominant housing stock. 239 of 250 towns (95.6%) carry at least one flag; the remaining 11 are inland, low-exposure locations. Flags are qualitative exposure indicators, not probabilistic forecasts.
Regional grouping follows each town's stated region, aggregated to nation level (with Greater London separated from the rest of England).
The per-trade demand figures referenced here are drawn from our companion reports, which use Google Ads search data via the DataForSEO Keywords Data API (geo: United Kingdom, pulled 17 June 2026).
