Stock Your Van for Fewer Parts Runs

Stock the van from the jobs you actually do. The aim is fewer avoidable parts runs and less time searching, not the largest possible inventory.

Give repeat-use items a fixed place

Use labelled bins, secure racking and a ready-to-lift kit for common visits. Keep test equipment, lighting and PPE accessible without unloading the van.

Build stock from recent work

• Put the fittings you keep buying in labelled bins.
• Keep a spare of small items that regularly force a merchant trip.
• When you use the last one, add it to a note on your phone.
• Check compatibility, expiry and manufacturer requirements before use.

A generic stock list does not justify fitting an unsuitable part. Keep specialist or expensive items tied to actual demand.

Check weight and security

Allow for racking, tools, stock, passengers and the load you collect during a job. Keep within vehicle and axle limits and secure the load.

Record tool serial numbers and photographs. Read your policy's overnight-storage and security conditions; a van's business-use class does not automatically insure the tools inside it.

Make restocking a routine
