Gas Safe Registration: Check Your Route
Gas Safe registration is required for gas work, and it covers defined work categories. Completing a course alone does not give you unrestricted permission to work on every gas appliance.
The route in plain terms
- Become competent for the intended work. The training and assessment route depends on your experience and the appliance/work categories.
- Register the business and relevant engineers. Registration does not replace the competence evidence.
- Work within the categories held. Check the back of the engineer's card rather than treating the logo as all-purpose approval.
- Keep registration and qualifications current. Annual registration renewal and qualification expiry are separate things to allow for.
Before paying for a course
Send the provider your existing qualifications and the exact work you want to do. The useful answer is the missing training, supervised experience and assessment, plus the full cost. A new entrant and an experienced engineer renewing a category do not need the same package.
Already registered?
Check the category and expiry before taking different appliance work. Put the renewal in the calendar you already use, allowing time for any required assessment.
